Team Europe’s Vlašić and Perković ready to put on a display for their home fans

Croatia’s European champions Blanka Vlašić and Sandra Perković will be using the IAAF World Challenge Zagreb 2010 meeting on Wednesday night as a prelude to competing in Team Europe kit at this weekend’s IAAF Continental Cup in Split.

The Cup is arguably the biggest athletics meeting to be staged in Croatia since the 1990 European Athletics Championships, which were also staged in Split.

At the Zagreb meeting 12 months ago, high jumper Vlašić cleared a world-leading 2.08m to move up to equal second on the world (and European) all-time list, just one centimetre away from the 23-year-old world record of Bulgaria’s Stefka Kostadinova.

“Last year's 2.08m will be difficult to beat and I will not burden myself with predictions this time. The most important thing is to win. I will see how the situation develops after two metres. It also depends a little on luck. Last time I decided to go to 2.08 instead of 2.10, so tomorrow I'll decide at that moment, on the spot, what I’m going to do,” said Vlašić on Tuesday.
